A few months ago, wasn’t everyone blaming rising prices of consumer goods on the cost of fuel?

Hello?? The cost of fuel has  come down from $4 a gallon to $2.50. Did anybody lower their prices on consumer goods?

Ohhh, yeah… recession.  Well, Wikipedia lists several economic conditions that cause a recession. And sometimes that includes falling prices (because as we know, less demand means falling prices - well, it’s supposed to).

Also I find it very puzzling that the banks get a lower prime lending rate, but they don’t pass anything on to the consumer. Credit card and personal loan interest is high as ever. Ahh, it’s a recession, but the banks get a raise. I see.

Rant done. I need to post some photos of a few SCA events, soon. Camera getting full.

Labor Day Weekend is one of the major 3-day weekends where my husband and I do not have a regular SCA event that we attend. Memorial Day Weekend is Potrero War and Columbus Day Weekend is Great Western War. OK, so not many people have Columbus Day off, but someone thought that would be a good weekend to start a war in the Kingdom of Caid ten years ago. There are two other SCA “wars” going on this weekend, but a lot of us think it’s just too hot… AND two wars a year is ennough for a lot of us.

So even though we don’t normally attend one of these events, we are still bummed, because two months after we started this forced moving crap, we are still not settled in.  We have made progress, though.

The bedroom configuration is different here, so our furniture didn’t fit quite right. Jim’s chest of drawers was too tall to go under a window, and would be too close to a wall heater in another spot, so it’s next to the bed, acting as a huge night stand, in addition to clothing storage.   With far less closet space than the old place, we still needed more storage.  A couple of weeks ago, we got one of these low and wide dressers about 32 inches high and five feet wide - you often see a mirror on these. It fits under the window where Jim’s chest of drawers wouldn’t fit.  That allowed us to put away four or five laundry baskets of clothing. It cost $70, needed a little bit of repair, and is working just fine. I really hate to go buy brand new furniture, because any real furniture is just too pricey and all average stuff is basically what I call “cardboard and paper construction”.

My husband, Jim, and I have recently been the victims of a retaliatory landlord that made us move because he wanted to re-paint and re-carpet our the townhouse we rented from him since he is selling the units. Also, I think that because he lost our lease agreement with the former owner, it caused a problem with the new buyers.

Late in June, the landlord gave us until the end of August or 60 days, whichever is later. We immediately began researching places to live and we found a place around July 1, and applied. We put down a deposit a few days later, asking if they would give us the full 10 days so that our overlap between rentals would be shorter. In this economy, there is no way they would hold it for another three weeks for us, and places with the amenities we need are hard to find these days.

Ok I just got my blog working again.  Besides the fact that I have been too busy to DO much with it (will explain later),  this is compounded by the fact that I just changed servers.  I would really prefer not to set up my entire blog and gallery again, but it looks like I will have to.   *sigh*
